Embue is thrilled to be a part of Third Derivative’s Latest Cohort.
Embue has been named to Third Derivative’s Cohort 24-1, the latest group of startups working on solving some of the world’s biggest climate issues.
Third Derivative (D3) was founded in 2020 by RMI to accelerate the rate of climate innovation with a goal of rapidly finding, funding and scaling global climate tech. D3 startups have gone on to raise over $1.5B.
D3 is not your average accelerator.
The selection process for D3 is rigorous. Applicants are vetted by experts from RMI’s broad and deep bench of climate technology and business organizations who understand the unique challenges and opportunities for companies working on these game-changing solutions. Only 12% of applications, which came from around the globe, were accepted into this cohort.
Embue was chosen because we are addressing a huge unmet need for carbon reduction in multifamily apartment buildings, especially in existing low income and senior housing properties. Our highly differentiated approach has resulted in the successful installation of our solution in over 7500 apartment units.
Apartment buildings in the US represent about 100M tons of CO2e emissions that have been hard to abate. At the same time, smart control of these buildings could reduce peak electricity load by up to 10 GW. That kind of load flexibility can help the grid out on a hot summer day or when renewable electricity production sags because of weather conditions. Big industrial users and single family homeowners already get paid by the grid to reduce loads like this. Multifamily owners and renters, including low income renters, were being left behind, and at the same time, this valuable load resource was not available to utilities. Embue has fixed that by creating a product that not only manages energy consumption, but also solves immediate operational challenges like handling resident comfort complaints, HVAC maintenance and protecting the building from dangerous temperatures and high humidity. This unique approach delivers wins for owners, managers, residents and utilities.
D3 is connecting us to investors ideally suited for our stage of growth who have a strong interest in decarbonizing multifamily buildings – in fact many of them own multifamily buildings. D3 is connecting us with corporate partners, including energy companies who can bring Embue to their customers to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. D3 also has large corporate partners in data and AI, telecommunications and manufacturing.
We're already seeing benefits from being in this D3 Cohort, and have been approached by potential investors and corporate partners. The endorsement from D3, coupled by the momentum we’re seeing in customer and partner acquisition, position Embue for growth for the remainder of 2024 and beyond.
