Embue and the COVID-19 Pandemic

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected each and every one of us in all sorts of ways, and its ripple effect on each industry is complex and unpredictable.

At Embue, we’ve watched the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic unfold in multi-housing over the last couple of months and it’s given us the utmost respect for those in our own ecosystem.

We’ve all learned how essential housing is -- everyone needs a place to live, and now, that might be their place of business as well. We’ve seen our senior housing customers working incredibly hard keeping their staff and residents healthy, while  our new construction customers are keeping the economy going while prioritizing the safety of their workers. We’re also thankful for our friends at WorcLab and are happy to support them as they quickly came together to deploy their 3D printers to produce NIH-approved face shields and N95 mask assemblies for local hospitals (you can donate here). Clearly, the COVID-19 crisis will have long-term effects on the way multi-housing conducts everyday business. Property owners are looking to limit the number of in-apartment visits to inspect and service equipment and to deal with an increased number of resident comfort complaints because more residents are at home during the day.

As far as Embue is concerned, as a supplier to the housing industry, we’re considered essential and have been working from home with the exception of a few brief visits to the office to test and ship hardware. We’ve also been doing installations for new customers who have chosen to start their projects by deploying sensors and controls in common spaces during stay-at-home mandates. After new working practices are established, they will move toward installing thermostats and sensors in apartment units to complete the job.

The pandemic has also provided us with the opportunity to take a step back and to see if there are products and services that can help our customers adopt apartment building intelligence solutions quickly, to reduce energy and other operational costs in the current environment. We’ve been working on a no-touch installation solution and you’ll be hearing about that soon.
